Oak View Group

The aggressive American arena-builder that turned venue development into a growth engine — now steering through the criminal indictment of its co-founder while a soccer-adjacent European arena pipeline and a Gulf hospitality JV define its next chapter.

01 AT A GLANCE

Arena development as a growth engine

Oak View Group is a vertically integrated venue company — development, management, hospitality, and premium-and-sponsorship sales — founded in 2015 by Tim Leiweke and Irving Azoff and backed by a Silver Lake minority. It manages or advises on more than 300 venues and has deployed over $4.5bn of arena development, including Climate Pledge Arena, UBS Arena and Manchester's Co-op Live.

Its football relevance is adjacent rather than direct: it builds arenas beside stadiums or in partnership with football owners, monetising the entertainment real estate around clubs rather than operating pitches. That thesis now centres on a European arena pipeline — including an Atlético Madrid complex — and a Gulf hospitality joint venture, even as the company manages the fallout from the federal indictment of co-founder Tim Leiweke.

03 OPERATING REALITY

How the business actually functions

The indictment is reputationally toxic precisely because OVG's edge was Leiweke's deal-making — yet charges against the individual rather than the firm let the company scrub him and keep bidding, with the CEO transition reading as a deliberate firewall. The trial's outcome, and any conviction's effect on public-venue contracts, is a live variable.

OVG's football relevance is adjacent: it builds arenas beside stadiums, as at Atlético, or in partnership with football owners, as with City Football Group at Co-op Live, monetising the entertainment real estate around clubs rather than the pitch. The growth thesis has shifted toward European concert arenas and Gulf hospitality — capital-light management and hospitality layered onto others' real estate. No clean group revenue figure is disclosed; the $4.5bn is cumulative development, not revenue.

04 STRATEGIC POSTURE

Direction in 2026

The posture is reputational repair under a new CEO plus international expansion through European arenas and Gulf hospitality. The open questions are the outcome of the Leiweke trial and any contract triggers, OVG's actual consolidated revenue (undisclosed), Silver Lake's current stake and exit intentions, and whether the Atlético arena carries 2030 World Cup exposure given Madrid's host status.
